Mariella Luz at Fall Arts Walk 2017

by Christina Butcher for OLY ARTS

In any community you’ll find people like Mariella Luz, who not only participate in the arts but actively support them. She does so through her work as a studio potter, instructor at Arbutus Folk School and founder and director of Olympia All Ages Project. Luz sits on the boards of Artist Trust, Olympia Artspace Alliance and Washington State Arts Commission. For this year’s Fall Arts Walk, Luz will curate a photography exhibit at Bar Francis featuring works by local photographer Hezekiah Pugh. She’ll coordinate children’s activities and hold pottery-throwing demonstrations at Arbutus Folk School. “Arts Walk is a great way for Arbutus to engage the community,” says Luz. “It is lots of fun to invite people into the school and studios so they can … meet instructors and see the work that comes out of our classes.”
