Harlequin Productions is a professional not-for-profit theater company at the State Theater in downtown Olympia. Founded in 1991, its mission is to seek to invigorate, educate, and empower our community and all people to feel more, think more, play more and judge less through the mirror of real live theatre. Through a dynamic selection of surprising material, it explores the human adventure in search of theatrical magic that expands perspective and inspires human empathy.
Harlequin produces a year-round, seven-show season with over 130 performances. By the end of its 2015-2016 season, Harlequin had mounted 145 productions, including 35 Harlequin originals, over 20 Shakespeare plays, and 52 world, west-coast or northwest premieres. Its projects tend toward strong, language-driven works, both classical and modern, by such playwrights as Tom Stoppard, Bruce Norris, Will Eno, Deborah Zoe Laufer, Martin McDonagh, Conor McPherson, Eugene O’Neill, Tennessee Williams, Moliére, and Rostand. In addition, it’s developed a unique reputation for its musical productions, most of which are original works.
