The opening night of Capital Lakefair, July 12, will bring a variety of performances to the main stage at Heritage Park, but one is set apart from the rest. The annual “Battle of the Bands” event, which pits high-school bands against each other, runs from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event sponsor is 94.5 ROXY-FM.
The bands will compete for a grand prize of $500, with gift cards for the runner-up and third-place finisher valued at $200 and $100 respectively.
“The show has definitely grown with Lakefair,” said O’Brien. After sorting through preliminary audition tapes, judges choose the final participants. All are current or recently-graduated students from area high schools.
