Do Tell at StoryOly

(UPDATED October 18, 2016)

On the third Tuesday of each month, Rhythm & Rye hosts StoryOly, Olympia’s most beloved “story slam” event. Half the suggested donation to compete or listen goes to Olympia SafePlace.

Starting at 5:30 p.m., volunteers throw their names in a hat, and 10 are invited to tell an eight-minute autobiographical story on a pre-supplied topic. A judging panel chooses the winner. On September 19, 2016, the first 10 winners battled it out in a “Grand Slam.”

“It’s going amazing,” says Amy Shephard, co-founder and production manager of the event. Here are the themes for 2016-2017:

Oct. 18, 2016: Survival

Nov. 15: Double Take

Dec. 20: Humiliating

Jan. 17, 2017: Second Wind

Feb. 21: Freedom

March 21: Mixed Messages

April 18:  Freaky

May 16: Secrets

June 20: Hopeful

July 18: The Dark Side

Aug. 15: Witness

Oct. 17: Bitter

Nov. 21: Reunion
