The Bridge Music Project (The Bridge), a Thurston County based non-profit is scheduled to host The Bridge Performance Flowcase at the historic Capitol Theater on March 22.
This concert is the final project for youth who participated in The Bridge’s eight-week songwriting workshop. The show features all original music created by youth and promises to be a high energy, family friendly performance.
“So much dedication and hard work has gone into these songs. They have poured their hearts into this project,” said Bobby Williams, Executive Director of The Bridge Music Project.
In The Bridge’s workshops youth will work together for eight weeks to write original music that shares their stories. The workshop concludes with youth recording their finished songs in a professional studio and hosting a final performance.
The mission of The Bridge is to teach young artist how music
and writing can be used as tools to deal with life’s challenges. While all
youth are invited to participate in The Bridge, most of the organization’s
outreach is targeted towards youth who have experienced major life challenges.
“Some kids come in here and write some super deep stuff that helps them to
decompress from situations that they’ve had in their life,” said Shanelle
Berry, a youth music mentor.
In 2018, The Bridge were selected by the Seattle Seahawks as the community recipients of the Legion of Youth Award. Program participants had the opportunity to meet the Seahawks and were given tickets to a home game.
This year The Bridge was visited at their workshop by Seahawks legends Randall Morris (1984-1988) and Alonzo Mitz (1986-1989). The former players shared their experience about what it means to achieve your dreams. They offered life advice to the group and listened to the youth’s music as they were in the process of creating. “Randall and Alonzo’s wisdom truly inspired the group that day. Everyone left feeling energized and passionate about their music,” said Bobby Williams.
The Bridge Performance Flowcase is open to the community at-large, with all patrons of the arts invited to attend. The Bridge lineup includes many musical styles with an emphasis on Hip Hop.
