Lacey in Tune Celebrates 25 Years

By Jonah Barrett

“There are many things that I like about Lacey in Tune. I love the stage,” proclaims musician Darren Motamedy. “It’s really rare to play on a stage that is designed for musicians.”

Lacey in Tune begins again this July, organized by Lacey Parks and Recreation supervisor Jeannette Sieler. Planning a summer-long entertainment series requires serious preproduction.

“I start work in November to begin the process of selecting bands and entertainers, it takes some time to coordinate performers’ availabilities and working to provide a variety of styles of music,” said Sieler. Now in its 25th year, Lacey in Tune is offering some top-notch entertainment.

Children’s Entertainment

Bring the kids on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. from July 9 through August 13. Families can expect entertainment acts like Reptileman (with live critters), Recess Monkey, and local magician Jeff Evans.

“Huntamer Park is a great location for an outdoor performance, and I’m always impressed at the hundreds of people who come out to enjoy the programs,” said Evans. “I grew up in Lacey, so it’s a bonus for me to see friends, clients, and fans at the Lacey in Tune show[s].”

Lunchtime Tunes

From July 10 through August 14, afternoon concerts will make lunch hour little more interesting. Audiences can expect to be entertained by bands like 313th Army Band, Darren Motamedy, and Wally & The Beaves.

“We love connecting the audience during our show and seeing the recognition of songs in their eyes,” said Wally & The Beaves member Danny Vernon. “[They] smile when they hear a song they remember.”

Music n’ Movies

Saturdays are in for double features from July 20 through August 10, with concerts at 7 p.m. and movie screenings at dusk. Films include Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and a surprise, world-famous, space opera beloved by many.

“I love getting to be at the shows and being able to step back and watch families and friends come together to make memories and enjoy a special time together,” said Sieler. “Connecting with the community and knowing I had a part in that feels amazing!”
