“I’ve been to Lakefair many times,” says Byerly. “It’s what you do in the summer.”
A longtime Olympia resident, Byerly often saw princesses on the Lakefair Parade float, never imagining she’d one day be the person waving at the crowd. As a member of the court, she most enjoys the social aspect. “I’m looking forward,” she says, “to a lot of the volunteering events since I was already doing that a lot with clubs before Lakefair. It’s something that I enjoy, just getting to meet new people and kids, and you learn a lot from it.”
While working with kids part-time, Byerly finds it important to be a figure they can admire. “Having the opportunity to continue to be a role model for them,” she says, “is really great.”
