Collaborative Movement and Partnering Workshop Coming to SPSCC

By Kati Sagawa

Nate Buchsbaum and Heather Favretto of Pilobolus

On Sunday, Nov. 10, South Puget Sound Community College will host a collaborative movement and partnering workshop with two members of visiting “rebellious” dance company Pilobolus, Heather Favretto and Nate Buchsbaum.

The workshop will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Performing Arts. It will be free and open to the public.

This exciting movement program will challenge participants’ brains and bodies to think and move differently. Participants will be led through exercises exploring collaborative, goal-oriented improvisation and functional partnering through weight sharing.

The aim of this class is for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to begin problem-solving through movement in new ways, forming genuine human bonds and finding beauty in unexpected places.

Favretto grew up in New Jersey and started dancing at a very young age. She went on to receive her BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where she currently serves on faculty when not living out of a suitcase. In 2010 she joined Pilobolus and it has provided Heather with the opportunity to share her love of dance with diverse communities all over the globe. She is the Dance Captain of Pilobolus’s repertory company.

Nate Buchsbaum was born in Pittsburgh, PA and started his dance career with the Danscompany of Gainesville, Florida in 2005. He went on to receive a BFA in Dance at Florida State University and since has worked with the Tallahassee Ballet. Since 2012 he has toured throughout Europe, Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, and the Americas with Pilobolus Dance Theater. His choreography has been featured in the New Grounds Dance Festival, the Five By Five event in Tampa, and the Amalgamate Artist Series in New York. Nate currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.
