SUMMARY:Barefoot in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word: he’s a straight‑laced lawyer; she’s a free spirit chasing her next thrill. Their sixth‑floor Manhattan walk‑up is riddled with leaks\, bad plumbing\, and a paint job long overdue. After a six‑day honeymoon\, Corie’s eccentric mother crashes the party\, and their quirky attic neighbor\, Velasco\, drops in—literally—turning domestic bliss into comic mayhem. As Paul’s pragmatism clashes with Corie’s spontaneity\, only a barefoot sprint through Washington Square can save their marriage. Smart\, snappy\, and full of heart\, Tony Award-winning Barefoot in the Park opened on Broadway in 1963 and ran for 1\,530 performances\, becoming Neil Simon’s first smash hit and one of the ten longest‑running plays in Broadway history. Today\, Simon’s landmark comedy remains an American stage treasure\, its sparkling wit and heartfelt charm as irresistible as ever.

SUMMARY:FDR’s Very Happy Hour
DESCRIPTION:Franklin Delano Roosevelt hosted a cocktail hour nearly every day at the White House\, welcoming folks from different backgrounds to sip martinis\, laugh\, and connect. Inspired by FDR’s love of stirring up drinks and lively conversation to unwind in challenging times\, this immersive new play mixes humor and history to build on this tradition for our era\, asking how the 32nd President’s triumphs and failures might illuminate our own civic health. As FDR invites us to ponder life\, a complicated legacy\, and the pursuit of community\, strangers become friends—and perhaps\, together\, we can find ways to talk with our neighbors again. This project prioritizes exploring the creation of an accessible experience for the fullest human spectrum possible. Captioning\, ASL Interpretation\, and design of the physical space for wheelchair access are part of the show. (FDR used a wheelchair\, after all.)\n\nThere are four performances of this production:\n\nThursday\, Nov. 5 at 7:30 pm\n\nFriday\, Nov. 6 at 7:30 pm\n\nSaturday\, Nov. 7 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm\n\nTickets available at washingtoncenter.org or by calling the Box Office at 3360-753-8586.

SUMMARY:Come From Away
DESCRIPTION:COME FROM AWAY\n\n“Suddenly everything’s high. Suddenly there’s nothing in between me and the sky.”\n\nIn the face of unimaginable tragedy\, ordinary people chose extraordinary kindness. Come From Away tells the remarkable true story of Gander\, Newfoundland\, where a small town opened its doors to thousands of stranded travelers on September 11\, 2001. As cultures collided and uncertainty loomed\, the people of Gander responded not with fear\, but with generosity – offering food\, shelter\, music\, and a powerful reminder of our shared humanity.\n\nThis acclaimed musical celebrates the heroic acts found in compassion\, hospitality\, and connection. Come From Away reminds us that even in the darkest moments\, the simple choice to care for one another can be the most profound act of all – and that heroism often lives in the everyday goodness of people willing to say\, “You are not alone.”\n\n“…a gently miraculous masterpiece…” – Time Out\n\n“…takes a true story that began on September 11th\, 2001\, and tells it in an exhilarating fashion that celebrates decency and human kindness.” – Broadway World\n\nBook\, Music and Lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein\n\nOriginal Broadway production produced by Junkyard Dog Productions\nOrchestrations by August Eriksmoen\nArrangements by Ian Eisendrath\n\nDirected by TBA\n\nJune 4th-20th\, 2027\nFridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm\nSundays at 2:00pm\n\nASL Interpreted Performance: June 12th\, 7:30pm\nPay What You Can/Industry Night: June 13th\, 7:30pm\n\nwww.lakewoodplayhouse.org
