SUMMARY:Women Who Step Up\, Not Aside with Trillium-239
DESCRIPTION:In this event—part music performance and part talk—acoustic music trio Trillium-239 shares songs and stories of trail-breaking women like Marie Curie\, Harriet Tubman\, Malala Yousafzai\, Annie Oakley\, and others. What drove them to step out of their expected roles to forge more difficult paths\, knowing they’d face many challenges and barriers? What can we learn from them?\n\nWith their voices\, hands\, pens\, and guns\, they persisted—and we’ll examine the lives and motivations of these fascinating women and celebrate them in song.\n\nThis program is supported as part of the Humanities WA Speakers Bureau.\n\nSpeaker Bio:\n\nTrillium-239 is an acoustic music trio. Michelle Cameron\, a nuclear chemist who works at a power plant\, plays cello; Janet Humphrey\, a cyber engineer\, plays guitar; and Mary Hartman\, a retired environmental scientist\, plays guitar and banjo. SUMMARY:Olympia Symphony Presents EVLOVE: Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale
DESCRIPTION:A soldier. A violin. A devil. A world being born.\n\nEVOLVE brings two theatrical works together in one intimate concert of story\, rhythm\, and transformation. In La Création du Monde\, The Creation of the World\, Darius Milhaud turns a creation myth into a jazz-infused ballet\, shaped by the sound world he encountered in Harlem. In L’Histoire du soldat\, The Soldier’s Tale\, Igor Stravinsky tells a sharp\, unforgettable story of a soldier who trades his violin\, his heart and soul\, to the Devil for unlimited wealth.\n\nWith Aaron Lamb\, Producing Artistic Director of Harlequin Productions\, joining as narrator\, EVOLVE becomes a concert where music speaks\, stories move\, and every choice carries a cost.
