Artist’s Reception for Janice Arnold – Homage to Water felt installation
June 27 at 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm PDT
The Washington State Department of Ecology Art Committee is pleased to invite you to an Artist’s Reception for special guest Janice Arnold. Her Homage to Water felt installation will be on full display at our Headquarters office in Lacey.
This is a unique opportunity to see and feel a passion project come to life. Guided tours of the installation will be held and include seeing the art from different vantage points. You’ll also have an opportunity to meet the artist and interact with her installation. Light refreshments will be served.
About the artist and her work
Janice is a world-renowned wool and felt artist and historian. She travels to study felt techniques and traditions in communities around the world.
Janice Arnold’s stunning work, Homage to Water, that is being installed at the department’s building in Lacey, WA was first inspired by the rock garden in 2009 as she envisioned her felted wool art flowing like a river, through the rocks and boulders bringing color and life to the building.
Janice learned the art of felt making under a Central Asian master craftsperson and has created whimsical and tactile installations as backdrops to Cirque du Soleil, for the Smithsonian, and in a multitude of museums across the country. Her work is so tactile, you can almost feel it through the embracing images of her work.
