Emerald City Music Presents Spotlight: George Crumb
March 26 at 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm PDT

Emerald City Music (ECM) continues its sixth season under the leadership of Artistic Director and violinist Kristin Lee. On Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 7:30pm in Olympia (Minnaert Center), ECM presents Spotlight: George Crumb, a special homage to the music and legacy of American composer George Crumb (October 24, 1929-February 6, 2022). This iconic Pulitzer and GRAMMY-winning composer is known for his contributions to calligraphic scorewriting. Musically, he juxtaposed contrasting musical styles, ranging from music of the western art-music tradition, to hymns and folk music, to non-Western musics.
The program features JACK Quartet performing Crumb’s 1970 masterwork Black Angels; guitarist Jordan Dodson and percussionist Ji Hye Jung in Mundus Canis from 1998, and Night of the Four Moons from 1969 performed by Charlotte Mundy, soprano; Demarre McGill, alto flute/piccolo; Jordan Dodson, banjo and guitar; Jay Campbell, cello; and Ji Hye Jung, percussion. The evenings will also include the short film Vox Hominis with George Crumb, by Zac Nicholson.
