Public Anyone on or off Facebook
Following two concerts challenging us to imagine a world “beyond firsts” and “beyond barriers,” our season concludes with us seeing “beyond dreams.” Music Director Alexandra Arrieche’s first season, “Dream With Us,” concludes with a triumphant finale titled “Olympians and Titans.”
THE MUSIC:
CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON CELLO CONCERTO – Tan Dun (2000)
Worldwide internet sensation and local favorite, Nathan Chan (https://nathanchan.com), performs Tan Dun’s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Cello Concerto, a concert work based on Ang Lee’s Oscar-winning film. With a theme of embracing hidden strengths and realizing potential, we are challenged to face our obstacles with confidence and courage.
SYMPHONY NO. 1 in D major “TITAN” – Gustav Mahler (1888)
This landmark season concludes with the Olympia Symphony’s first-ever performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, “Titan,” featuring the largest ensemble of Olympia Symphony musicians ever assembled on the Washington Center stage at one time. Although not explicitly based on Greek mythology and the “War of the Titans,” we can not help but draw a parallel line ourselves. In the epic battle of the Titans vs. the Olympians, who triumphs? The Olympians, of course!
We end our season with triumph and celebration as we go forward into our future together – beyond firsts, beyond barriers, and beyond our dreams.
