Women of Note presents Origins Concert

May 24 at 7:00 pm 8:00 pm PDT

Shelton Women’s Choir Presents “Origins”

Shelton, WA:  Music can be interpreted very differently from age to age as well as from person to person. Gabriel Faure and Andrew Lloyd Weber have a similar concept for “Pie Jesu” but Michael Engelhardt’s interpretation of “O Antique Sancti” is quite different from Hildegard von Bingen’s. Brahms and Billings both composed rounds for students of their day, and these rounds sound amazingly different.

Women of Note invites you to hear different vocal and composition techniques of similar music composed in different eras. Experience a broad range of ‘classic to modern’ music, from the early centuries through to a joyous finale in modern pop style.

The concert will also feature a first-time collaboration with classical pianist Dilyara Oliver. She completed her training in Piano Performance at Kazakh National Conservatory, then attended the University of New Orleans with a full merit-based scholarship, where she earned a Master of Music in Piano Performance degree.

Prior to her move to Olympia, WA in 2022, Dilyara was a faculty member at Loyola University New Orleans and New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. She also served as the president for the New Orleans Music Teachers Association. Her students have won city and state competitions, and have also performed with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.

While in New Orleans, she made guest appearances at the French Quarter Festival, Jazz and Heritage Festival, Snug Harbor, New Orleans Vocal Arts Chorale performances, MetroPelican Opera productions, Jefferson Performing Arts Society, Trinity Recital Series, Loyola Montage Series and others.

Elizabeth Berndt, music director of Women of Note, says, “She is a wonderful accompanist, knowledgeable of varying music styles with a keen sense of musicianship and a lovely touch on the piano.”

There is much to enjoy at Women of Note’s family friendly concerts, and they look forward to sharing music with the community.  No advance tickets necessary. Donations gratefully appreciated.
