The Olympia Film Society is now accepting submissions for its 36th-annual Olympia Film Festival. Filmmakers are welcomed to submit their films online until the deadline of December 23, 2019.
Named one of the “Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World” by MovieMaker Magazine in 2018, the Olympia Film Society has hosted the annual festival since 1983.
The gathering is a 10-day, around-the-clock extravaganza of films, filmmakers and film-related guests, special performances, discussion panels and educational workshops. The festival attracts between 5,000 and 7,000 attendees each year.
In a shift from tradition, OFS changed the timing of this year’s festival. The 36th-annual festival will no longer take place in November, but instead will happen in April 2020.
“We appreciate all of our long-time supporters &emdash; those who have attended the film festival year after year, each November,” says Audrey Henley, executive director of OFS, “but we’re excited to announce this change. Spring is a season of transformation, which felt right to align with as the festival continues to grow.” The festival will also line up nicely with Spring Arts Walk, she noted. “Thousands of people will be downtown experiencing art and culture, and film fits in perfectly with that.”
The festival is hosted around the downtown Olympia area, mainly inside Capitol Theater. The venue is a 1924 concert and movie palace owned and operated by OFS.
