Auditions for In the Gutter at Olympia Little Theatre
April 16, 2023 at 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm PDT
In the Gutter will hold its auditions on Sunday, April 16th @ 2pm and Monday, April 17th @ 7:00 pm in the annex building at Olympia Little Theatre. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
PLAY SYNOPSIS: A door-to-door gutter salesman gets an unexpected proposition. She will buy his gutters with extras, but only if he murders her husband. Should he do it? Did the nosy neighbor overhear? Is everyone in way over their heads? The plot goes off the rails on a wild ride of puns and double entendres that will provoke both groans and irresistible laughter. Take a fast-paced ride “in the gutter” with us for twists and turns and hard-boiled comedic patter that both skewers and honors the “noir”* tradition in the West coast premiere of this ridiculously fun comedy!
*The dialogue in this play is fast-paced in the style of a 1940s noir but set in modern day.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
CHAD (M, playable age 25-45): The gutter salesman. Fallen on hard times. In way to deep because of a fast-talking dame. The patsy who fights back.

FIONA (F, playable age 25-45): The fast-talking dame who’s got a burden for a husband. Makes Chad an offer he can’t refuse. But things don’t go the way she thinks.
MRS. COOPER (F, playable age 35-65): The nosy neighbor. Finds out more than she’s bargained for. Also plays the detective.
BILL (M, playable age 35-65): The burden of a husband and a nasty piece of work. Disabled but harder to kill than he looks. Also plays the cop.
COP: The compassionate flatfoot who’s also a consummate professional. Played by the same actor who plays Bill.
DETECTIVE: The tough broad in a man’s profession. Won’t be conned by anyone. Played by the same actor who plays Mrs. Cooper.
