This will be a combined celebration of the birthday of the Bill of Rights, and a musical concert to benefit the World Central Kitchen. This is a not-for-profit non-governmental organization devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters. It is currently doing everything possible to bring more aid into Gaza as well as to Mexico and to the Ukraine, among others. All proceeds from the event will go to World Central Kitchen. The featured speaker on the Bill of Rights anniversary will be Lyle Quasim, who has long worked in health services and social service policy for the state, federal, and county governments with the hope of bringing more attention to disparities caused by race, class, and gender. He has worked with antiwar and progressive organizations across the Northwest. He is currently on the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation’s Board of Directors. Following a presentation by Sallie Shawl, music will be provided by two folk acts. Gary Kanter is a New York-born songwriter/humorist with a passion for topical songs It has been said of him that he “may be the most dangerous songwriter in Washington State – maybe in the country”.
