by Alec Clayton for OLY ARTS
Brian Wayne Jansen is a self-taught artist who began his career shortly after he took an art history class in high school. He enjoyed his first show at the Capitol Theater for a Stonewall Youth event eight years ago and has been showing around Olympia and Seattle since. For a while, he went door to door selling prints of his paintings. He recalls this as a wonderful time when people were friendly, often inviting him in to chat for an hour or two. Some would show him their work as well. His styles range from pop art to surrealism–as seen with his flower paintings–to figurative art in a chiaroscurist vein.
