The Olympia Armory Creative Campus Looks to Reconnect With Its History As a Community Hub

Since the Olympia Armory’s construction in the late 1930s, the building has cemented an illustrious legacy, from serving as a facility for the Washington National Guard to hosting regular sporting events and community dances. The Armory, nestled off of the tree-lined Legion Way just outside Olympia’s downtown corridor, will house eight nonprofit anchor partners who are set to hold long-term leases and programming inside the Armory Creative Campus. They will carry out their regular programming in addition to special events and workshops, with community access in mind.  

The South Sound Story Guild‘s Monthly Story Swaps and Annual “Tellabration!” Fundraiser

On the second Wednesday of the month, the South Sound Story Guild gathers at Olympia’s Harbor House, where attendees preserve and celebrate the art of oral storytelling. Whether a funny yarn passed down through the generations, a spooky legend or the tale of a great mythological hero, the South Sound Story Guild holds space for members of the guild and the greater community to be entertained, learn something new, and share their own stories.

The New Olympia Arts & Heritage Alliance Museum Showcases Olympia’s Artistic and Cultural History

The newly opened Olympia Arts & Heritage Alliance Museum is designed to combine multiple elements under one roof, including a visitor center and an all-around community hub that features a rotating selection of displays, art exhibitions and cultural experiences, with a focus on regional topics. The museum made its grand opening the weekend of June 28 and is now open weekly from Thursday through Sunday. Centrally located on Columbia Street, the museum sits across the street from The Olympia Center and just steps away from Percival Landing Park near Olympia’s waterfront.

Explore Olympia’s Bustling Zine Community at the 2025 Olympia Zine Fest

More than 80 vendors will be present at the Olympia Zine Fest, May 30-31, primarily featuring zines and similar art forms. Co-organizer Kerry Martin describes the format of the Tabling Expo as a cross between an art gallery opening and a craft fair, with the opportunity to meet and chat with zine creators while enjoying the different writing and artwork on display. Zines featured in the expo may be available for a small fee, and zine artists may also be open to trading or exchanging zines with fellow zine authors.

Olympia Is Searching for Next Poet Laureate

Since 2017, the City of Olympia Poet Laureate has used the written word as a frame to explore timely topics, facilitate community conversations and revisit local landmarks and landscapes. This spring, the City of Olympia is searching for the next Olympia Poet Laureate and is inviting members of the public to submit applications for the position.
