OLYMPIA ZINE FEST!
September 10, 2023 at 11:00 am – 4:00 pm PDT
(This event is outdoors behind the library on 9th Ave SE, between Franklin and Adams Streets SE. The Library is only open for bathrooms and workshops.)
Olympia Zine Fest is an annual community event that promotes zines and other forms of DIY culture. All events are free and all ages. This year the main event is outdoors behind the Olympia Timberland Library, on 9th Ave between Adams and Franklin St. Over 80 tablers will be selling their zines and there will also be workshops inside the Library, on demand screen-printing from 12 to 3pm with OOPS, DJ sets from DJ Wildman James and Doctor Sleep, a hand-drawn photobooth with Saeko Reed, and a huge raffle.
Workshop schedule:
Night Drawer with Frederick Dobler
11am to 4pm
Make a page for a collective zine inspired by a prompt. Participants will get a copy of the zine when it’s ready!
Comics 101 with Chelsea Baker
11:30am to 12:30pm
Learn what makes comics a unique medium for telling great stories – even if you don’t know how to draw!
Resilient Bastard with Meg Martin
1pm to 2pm
Learn some basics about addiction and mental health, and how to show up for yourself and loved ones who are struggling (while also contributing to the next issue of Resilient Bastard).
Zinester Songwriter with Lauren Napier
2:30pm to 3:45pm
Bring song lyrics or poetry (original or not) for hands-on experience connecting poetry, music, and zines.
There will also be a zine reading at Le Voyeur (414 4th Ave E) starting at 7pm with readers Ayun Halliday, Jonah Barnett, Mara Gervais, Minhee Kim, Nhatt Nichols, Sierra Jane, and Tanisha Jackland!
