Capital City Pride Festival is June 15-17 in downtown Olympia, offering family-friendly events, live music throughout the weekend, a parade and a city-wide community gathering in celebration of gay, lesbian and transgender identity and solidarity.
“The way that you respond to hate crimes is with love, and we have to build that, and we have to build that together,” said former festival chair Anna Schlecht.
Capital City Pride festivities take place throughout the weekend. The annual pride parade is Saturday at 11 a.m. Festival organizers are planning for more than 15,000 participants this year.
Pride Festival organizers work closely with Olympia Police, who will step up patrols throughout the weekend. A police department spokesperson said the added patrols are to help people feel a sense of security and safety, as well as to show the police department’s support for the LGBTQ community.
