MissyG Band at Lacey in Tune

by Adam McKinney for OLY ARTS

While there are certainly plenty of talented country artists in America these days, there was a golden age for country music that ran from roughly the late ’50s through the ’70s. It was in these times that the so-called “outlaw country” of people like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson got its start. It was also during this time that inimitable voices like Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton emerged on the scene. MissyG Band is cut from the same cloth as Harris and Parton, deftly finding the delicate balance between old-fashioned, string-heavy country and warm-hearted pop. Anchored by Missy Guthrie’s inviting voice and fleshed out with husband Paul Guthrie on bass and keys, Barb Crowell on pedal steel guitar, Rick Lewis on percussion and multi-instrumentalist Paul Wieneke, MissyG Band is skilled at bouncing between rollicking, barroom odes and misty-eyed strolls through nostalgic pasts.
